Due to rather inadequate engineering, the 360 can potentially suffer from problems such as the "Red Rings Of Death", E74 or No Video errors. Contrary to what most think, these problems are not due to the 360 overheating on any one occasion, though it does contribute to the issue (note: the 360 actually has an indicator for overheating which is 2 blinking red lights in quadrant 1 and 3). These problems arise due to the inadequacy of the X-Clamps - among other reasons. They are actually a hardware failure caused by the warping of the motherboard which is in turn caused by long term heat exposure from the CPU and GPU. This can lead to hairline fractures in the lead-free solder that was used in the 360's construction which then causes the hardware issues.
MY FIX: - - $60.00
- Removal of the X-clamps
- CPU and GPU cleaning
- Replace heatsink paste with premium Artic Silver
- Install proper bolt system to securely affix heatsinks to CPU and GPU
- Targeted heatgun treatment to help reflow the solder
- Complete interior clean/dust of the 360
NOTE:
I generally have about a 90% success rate, however, I cannot (nor can anyone else) guarantee fully that your xbox will work for as long as you want it to. The 360 is flawed from the start due to the lead-free solder and poorly designed X-clamps. Your box could continue to work indefinetly or it could fail again in two weeks. Please be aware of this fact when getting this fix. If I cannot bring your 360 back to life, the charge is $15 to cover time, parts and material costs.
